Fight against biopiracy in South Africa on German prime-time news

In the weekly Sunday news-round up on Germany’s principal public broadcaster ARD on 19 July 2010 two recent accusations of biopiracy  in South Africa were highlighted. The first involved the illegitimate use of traditional knowledge surrounding the medicinal properties of pelargonium sidoides by Germany’s Schwabe, and the second the bioprospecting on Honeybush and Rooisbos by Swiss food giant Nestle without the appropriate permits from the South African government.
